TV for more information the the Palm Beaches is a top destination with beautiful beaches and a vibrant art scene open year round add in a business-friendly climate and you get the new Wall Street of the South attracting big business to a small city is no small feat but the business development Board of Palm Beach County has it all figured out I had the Good Fortune of growing up here so if anyone's seen growth born and raised right down the street and Palm Beach County really in the last 15 years has been focused on diversifying Palm Beach County's economy because for 50 years this economy has built on tourism Agriculture and construction and now is leaning more towards this massive transformation of bringing in Wall Street South companies a more Diversified economy and higher paying jobs when Black Rock Citadel and Goldman Sachs the titans of the financial industry landed here it opened up the gates for Wall Street you're bringing in much more many more people what's housing been like so that has been the difference that we felt in the economic transformation in that a lot of the growth now is coming in from the outside where before it was growth from within the county uh so housing there are 250% increase in multif family residential about an 80% increase in single family home residential so you've seen this boom in a number of different markets as a person who lives here does that like rock your brain a little bit is it like it's and it forces me to focus on quality rather than quantity this passion for creating a diversified economy the very thing that attracted Executives to this area at the top of the list is the quality of life that we all enjoy no state tax on personal income and this balance for the ability to enjoy the beauty of Palm Beach County in a thriving competitive business environment when people are coming down here now they're realizing oh it's not just the weather absolutely so arts and culture we are an epicenter for that as well all of that is because we realize that arts and culture also drives economic development but we also are becoming a foodie Haven here in Palm Beach and many of hospitals and healthc care facilities are also following the clientele so we're getting growth not just from corporations and residents but all the amenities that people are used to seeing in the Northeast down here you can pretty much have Paradise exactly right it's amazing what you take for granted when this is all you know next we're checking out a cool concept that transforms an ordinary snack machine into art at your fingertips there is currently right now something called the creative vending Revolution happening I know how did I miss that yeah it's it's an underground movement there's a few of us taking refurbished snack vending machines and doing something creative with them something different in my case specifically I wanted to highlight local artists so cool obviously there's a certain type of art that can go in there right size I talk to the artist and um what do you make what do you already make what is your stake whatever their type of art is or what medium they work in and then it's do you have something that exists that fits in these size parameters if not what can we create curate together you're basically curating the vending machines is it you alone yeah how cool is that that's very nice that's like cool fun it's different this is a print from um Katie bird Sunshine State of Mind very Florida I love this we also have um some original art these are actually hand painted canvas magnets from a local artist named Jess kiry W um so she's a surrealist so these are 2in canvases so you can have your um Art Gallery wherever you go on your mini fridge or wherever you need it amazing so we try and look at a space that is otherwise unused and turn it into a market for artists so smart are you worried about when do they go stale it's really a gut feeling um right now currently I have I think 51 artists in in what I call Active rotation so I either have a piece of their art on consignment or it might be in one of the machines or we're working on it these are prints done on canvas of hand painted art by a local artist Melissa um so she's she does a lot of Florida scenes the Jupiter Lighthouse underwater creature she's really inspired by our local sea life all kinds of stuff I love this now we're headed to 1909 a shared workspace that connects entrepreneurs into one Java infused location let's meet the co-founder who's keeping her eye out for the next Rising Star some might say it's the uh cashmir sweater of workspaces some might say that you might say that yeah back in 2012 I started my first company here in Page County and there was just very little in the sense of resources for creatives for small businesses for entrepreneurs in general I got to know the network and the the growing creative and Tech communities out of Palm Beach County and decided you know we need a One-Stop shop for all the resources affordable workspace mentorship business education most importantly just a community of like-minded individuals a place you can just kind of walk into and feel free to just experiment you know mess up and learn from others and work together and I just wanted that one place because we were so sick of being people like myself and so many others that were creative and wanted to start a company having to leave for these other markets to get those resources it's industry agnostic here so there's so many diverse people we're not just Tech we're founder focused so making sure people own their businesses are growing their businesses want the help aren't just looking for affordable workspace but it's more about incubation right it's about really creating we're not in the real estate industry we really are selling kind of hopes and dreams and opportunities for the small business owner the entrepreneur they come in and you immedately get access to different events in programming and business education and we really are tracking them to make sure that they're continuing to grow their business and their Endeavor and find success both personally and professionally every entrepreneur is at a different level depending on your Revenue your your needs the size of your business so we usually help work with you and figure out a specific plan for you and your business 1909 what is that what does it come from what is it what's is the year Palm Beach County was founded look at you yeah nod to the past but we're all about you know starting something new in the future you're a smart cookie yeah you really are and now to a local entrepreneur who's bringing home the dough after selling bread door Todo as a teenager I've been baking bread since I was like 5 years old with my grandparents and everything but I started it professionally when I was 14 years old a family friend showed me a really simple no need bread recipe and I kind of snowballed from there so you started your local neighborhood y just kind of being like embedded in the local food community here you got to make really great friends get surrounded by really amazing talented people and it's just really a great place to be so what's the secret why why are you selling out what's cuz you're obviously massively popular you're opening up a second location now I think just our attention to the craft I am a freak when it comes to sourcing ingredients like all of our whole grain flour is freshly mil literally M and send to our Bakery within a week of being mil so it tastes delicious you don't you get sweet earthiness rather than a stringent bitterness that you get from dead wheat flour listen this is the only reason I came it's been nice talking but I really want to try the bread fair enough I think we should start off with our most classic loaf that we offer here at the bakery our country sourdough country okay I'm going to cut that down the middle so you can see the crumb on the inside Cheers Cheers oh man mhm you really are good thank you oh my goodness for our bake today we put out about 1,400 pieces of bread I got in at 10:00 at night to start the bake wow dough all ferments overnight in this big walk-in cooler that fermentation gives it the flavor the texture the digestibility it's been slowly proofing and it's ready to go so I just pop them out of their baskets squore them throw them in this oven you're making it sound easy but I know it's not easy now you're on this one here the key is to kind of crate it with your hands a little bit so you're not picking right so you're not like denting it or deflating it got yeah it's better that looks good to me all right cuz I'm listen I'm always looking for a new job what am I doing just one that's good two beautiful three four yes you okay with that that look good to me oh had to mess it up I got nervous the key is the razor actually feels your indecision you have to be oh then this razor yeah this razor could definitely okay there so be yeah there you go just be confident and secure in your Cuts confident and cure you know how long it's been that I've been trying to find those two come on I'm just pushing push it right in there okay steam it up it's literally flour and water the way that we handle them the way that we ferment them and we guide them along like the dough along you really do feel Pride like watching it turn into a full loaf of bread that people actually take time out of their day to come visit us and spend their money on our bread look at that wow oh my gosh wow black pepper Palm mhm it kind of hits that like oiness from the black pepper oh my goodness but we use parmesan that's that'll be too good to bake with holy cow what's this one herb [Music] feta come on this is almost dangerous mhm so good Fegan walnut bread forgot how good it is really good I will be here long but long after the cameras have stopped rolling this is we are here at the max plank Florida Institute for Neuroscience situated here in the growing biosciences cluster right in Jupiter and I am about to learn everything there is to know about the brain would you say that this this institute uh includes the smartest people in the State of Florida all Under One Roof I'm not going to say that uh it's the smartest but what I will say in terms of the science that we are delivering I am so proud to be a part of this institute how did it come to be here the MOX PL is widely regarded as the number one nonprofit research organization in the world is that right yes yes and there are 84 institutes that cover you know a very broad range of science those institutes are either in Germany or in adjacent countries there's one outside of Europe and it's in jiter Florida that's great we're focused on understanding the fundamentals of how the brain works and we're doing this from the molecular scale all the way up to the Circuit scale we're really addressing fundamental questions about how neural circuits work to produce all the brain functions and when we understand that we're going to understand what goes AR in various disorders we just recruited a new SCI scientific director who is making you know amazing sensors for different neurotransmitters in the brain um dopamine for example so we can literally visualize the release of dopamine in active circuits okay this is this is a it's a a new era in terms of our understanding my lab is busy probing a development of circuits and so many uh brain disorders are the developmental disorders and really understanding um the mechanisms that are responsible for brain development is key we know a lot but we need to know so much more of course the general person probably knows more about the app on their phone than they do about their own brain that's a great quote I like that I mean I'm a quote machine my friend we are bringing in the next generation of scientists here graduate students post-doctoral fellows and I am so proud of how how many research group leaders and post-doctoral fellows from The Institute they have their own Labs at universities throughout the US and Beyond actually I love that and they're the ones that are going to take this research to the next level yes we've U really dedicated uh time and resources to uh public engagement the van that has ask Max on it and this is a van that we take to the public schools we've actually reached uh like 5,000 students giving them the excitement of Science and I think that's important for our future one thing that we do um is called uh science meets music we always have amazing performance musical performance and also I'd like to say an amazing scientific presentation that's Geared for the public so many times I've had people afterwards walk up to me and say you know I came for that music but that science was amazing and I just feel like yes we did it we have brain exploration day we open up the Institute and allow the public to come in and actually see the science that we are doing here we have uh hands on events for them to play with it's fascinating work and appreciate uh Someone Like You Who conveys the passion and the energy for it which is I think the most important the L's Center of Excellence is a state-of-the-art facility also located in Jupiter serving as a resource for those with autism and their families the programs here at El's for autism are designed to empower each individual in many areas including job training yeah training how did this begin and why it started because of Ernie and leisel ell's they have a son Ben who has autism and they were living in the UK they weren't able to find uh the services that they really needed and so they moved to the USA and then they started the foundation with Marvin shankin who is the publisher of wine spectator and other Publications yes and the three of them started El's for autism in 2009 and their daughter Samantha has also been involved in supporting siblings it's amazing they had a dream that they would build a place that was a community where everyone knew what makes your child be the best that they could be and that makes the family feel not alone and to have hope talk to me about the different programs that you have well this is Way Beyond a school um there is a public charter school of Palm Beach County that lives here and it served children ages 3 to 21 uh all with autism diagnosis we also have early intervention Therapy Services Recreation programs and then here we are in the Stoops family Adult Services building because children grow up and they need a place to continue to grow and connect learn and be able to find jobs and so we have this Adult Services building that is the Hub where we find jobs for people and keep them connected learning through our adult Day program it's amazing and not just finding jobs you're training them to be ready for that job learning connecting growing and living a productive life doesn't end when school ends and you have a working Cafe here we sure do we have a work experience training program that we developed not only for the cafe but also in other businesses here in Palm Beach County we partner with Jupiter Medical with the PGA National Resort and Spa Ibis Country Club the Marriott all these organizations are opening their doors to be able to train adults with autism how to work in their industry so in the cafe you can imagine we're teaching them how to work in a restaurant so they spend 10 weeks with us 3 days a week and they learn everything from the back of the house and in the front of the house in the point of sale system as well as busing tables and just welcoming customers that's fantastic what does this Cafe mean to you uh you know in your in your in your life what's it meant to you well it means breaking new barriers meeting new people people and different customers and also learning new things every once in a while because you learn stuff as you live on and you learn new things every day every day is a new challenge so at the end of that 10 weeks presumably they're prepared to go get a job in the workplace exactly phenomenal that's got to feel so good doesn't it I drive up to work every day with a smile on my face not only because it's a beautiful campus but because the incredible work that we get to do here and we're changing ing lives every day not only for the person with autism but for their entire family and their community that they live with now we head to Western Palm Beach County also known as the epicenter of Agriculture production for the nation with 500,000 Acres harvested annually you're one of the guys at the center of it for many many years MH I'm a third generation of sugarcane and vegetable farmer my father grew up on a farm in Cleveland Ohio moved to belglade in 1948 I went away to college to be an engineer it didn't work out yeah so being a farmer was the number two choice and I said you know maybe I should give it a try and fell in love with it did you there's nothing more exciting than being a vegetable farmer yeah it's remarkable to listen to the amount that is supplied to America from this area not just sugar Sugar's a big one right right it's the biggest yeah we grow lettuce radishes sweet corn celery sugar cane and rice I could be called a doctor I could be called a doctor of plantology MH I have patients they just don't talk they're vegetables they're sugar cane and my job is to keep them healthy maybe I need to see you more than I need to see the other doctor now I tell people we have a PhD in water management because we're managing not only the water but the nutrients in the water science Medicine Science gosh but you know a lot of the I kind of feel like you did go into engineering well the good news is if you're if you don't know where the answer is and you're willing to try to find it it's called an adventure sure is you just follow the trail you don't know where it's going yeah everything has to be consistent that's the secret that sounds so stressful are you stressed on a regular basis I know it's awesome it's an awesome job Saturday mornings in West Palm Beach are anything but ordinary we're back at the award-winning Green Market where the community comes together for food music and fun every time I come it gets bigger and bigger it's the 30th year talk to me about it I mean it's amazing right we started with 13 vendors a long long time ago and now we're at 130 plus vendors that is crazy 17 are new it's important you know to bring in some some fresh vendors and a lot of times what happen is happens is our vendors here get so successful they open brick and mor they've just established a customer base they know what sells they open a brick and mortar and that's all good right I love that how many visitors you get oh my gosh you know it's free event so it's hard to put a number on it but I will tell you that you want to get here early so you get that good place to park yes and the venders are super happy some of them are selling out what is going on with the Master Chef is this a new thing so we started that last year and it caught on very quickly you know at first it was like can we get the chefs to participate now they're calling us we want to be involved it's so much exposure for them too and the people are loving it we added a little um a little side deal this year where there's a limited number where you can buy and you can taste how many chefs are you getting so we have anywhere from 2 to five each month okay they have I think they have an hour and a half and they're preparing their meal right in front of everybody most of them use products from our Green Market vendors which they're the freshest products of course open from October through to like the third week in April from 9:00 to 1 every Saturday every Saturday we're here we're doing it if you need a lift to the Green Market or around the downtown the rose trolley offers more than just a ride there's a backstory that will really move you the origin story is uh we were delivering meals um for our season not as seniors they are our season and they would always tell us can you give us a ride here can we go here can we go there so my brother's friend family friend said you know why don't you make it a business you're doing it and so that was November of 2021 January of 20122 that's where Rose Charlie came from Rose from rosemary that only went South and that's where all the Jitney and the taxi says uh were and he I like pink oh yeah and he said well make it a hot pink and look at him here here's Rose Charlie I love this just helping people once in a while is is now a full-time gig is a fulltime gig man oh man so we started from doing 20 people a month to 30 people a month and the city asked us to be a part of the pilot program and we said yes didn't know what we were getting into we rarely do yes and so we were trying to um so as of September we had about 3,200 rides what as of September hold on a second back up now cuz you're giving me crazy figures how many drivers do you have is it just we have 16 total oh yes we have 16 total drivers that are active drivers we have 12 that come from the community some people say opportunity Community some people say Equity zones we just call them special neighborhoods sure you're serving a part of the community that is underserved that is UND served and overlooked for far too long it's a beautiful Comm Community within the historic Northwest of course and and the history of these communities the history of these communities and you want your children and grandchildren is still have some of this history course that's still here we are more than just transportation we are mothers and fathers and uncles and sisters and social workers we also still deliver our meals every Tuesday uh we deliver to our season um and twice a month we also deliver meals um between 150 and 200 200 to seniors in the community and we have a nonprofit um which is roses transportation services and that focuses more on just really what the need is and it's such a big need I I call this a give back business CU whenever you grow up in an area and you stay in the area and you develop any sort of business that gives back to the community this is one of the extreme ones I mean this is crazy what you guys are do this is amazing Palm Beach county is home to some of the most renowned chefs restaurants and wineries in the country and every year the Palm Beach County Food and Wine Festival brings the culinary world right to our doorstep I'm here at the 17th annual Grand tasting I'm doing a little tasting but mostly a lot of sipping I've been part of the food and one Festival when it started I think it was 16 17 years ago uh much smer festival and uh you know I'm very proud of David sa that cheated this event and brought it to this level I I don't know there's probably 3 4,000 people in this room now at least right now yeah and uh you know it keeps going every year and he's doing such a great job at expending the quality of uh restaurants the quality of food and wine in know Community through putting it on the map of the national map absolutely yeah it's become a national thing because it's not like you just know it in the area yeah it's like a boutique show uh it's high quality you know we have great weather and we also have a great Crow so from your perspective how The Culinary choices have grown in Palm Beach county in the last 15 years cuz it's exploded part of it is because we get people from all over the country and we've been bringing great concept from uh different states and you know uh as everything in life when the competition gets higher everybody has to play the play the game a little bit higher so but it's been guys like you that have elevated the game here I mean you know it really it really basically killing it in all of the all of the rest you're doing great from the beaches to the boardrooms we've had an incredible time exploring what makes the Palm Beaches so attractive to live and work in we hope you'll get out and enjoy everything the Palm Beaches has to offer join me the next time as we go on the town in the Palm Beaches With Me Frank lucari look at that we just did that well you did that wow I'm really good I'm really good I'm a great baker I just want everybody to know that this program was brought to you by discover the Palm Beaches visit the Palm beaches.
