Okay, okay, I want you to know right now we are live on television on WGVU.
Our show is designed for you to play along with us on so many of the things that we will be doing.
And some of you are registered at our custom made play at home interface.
So you will notice that viewer ideas are brought in during part of the show in real time.
When they registered, they were given an animal and a color to represent them.
So all of us are gonna play together and some of your ideas will be brought right into the show.
Ah, the show is better because of our collaboration.

We've got a question of the week.
But first, right now, I wanna bring in my good friend, my human intelligence, Jim.
Hi, Jim.
- Hi, Wimee.
Hi, friends.
- Are you afraid of spiders?
- I am not afraid of spiders.
As a matter of fact, I'm a huge fan of spiders.
Any spider has free reign in my house 'cause I know that they're doing work.
They're collecting all the other bugs that would be running around my house.
So, love spiders.
- So, do you have some spiders that are like your pets?
You're like, "Hey, there's Billy walking through the living room."
- Well, we're not really on a first name basis.
They're pretty good at hiding so I don't really see 'em all that often, but if I do see 'em, I'll just be like, "Oh, hey, how's it going?"
And they're good.
- Yeah, spiders are amazing.
Okay, thanks Jim.

Hmm, ooh.
Teal Seahorse says, "Depends on the kind of spider."
There are a lot of different types of spiders.
Ooh, "No, they're awesome."
Spiders can be awesome.
Orange Ant, "Yes.
Some spiders hunt me, the tiny ant."
Oh, you're the orange ant.
(Wimee laughs) That's fun.
On the play at home interface, you become an animal with a color and you are orange ant today.
(Wimee laughs) That's fun.
Red cat is, "Not afraid, but I don't want them to crawl on me."
That is unexpected when you're just sitting there and you're like, "Whoa, hey buddy."
Oh, "Sometimes because they have so many long legs."
They do.
Do you know how many in particular?
I bet we'll find out later on the show if you don't know.

Yeah, let's get singing.
I need you to share with me something tall.
Think it over.
Hmm.
What is something tall?
Lots of possibilities.
Hey Jim, I'm gonna go to you first to kick this off.
What is something tall that you were thinking of?
- [Jim] How about a giraffe?
- Giraffe!
Okay, so I'll come up with the rhyme for giraffe.
Here's how it goes.
♪ The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the giraffe ♪ ♪ Down came the rain ♪ It made the spider laugh ♪ Out came the sun and dried up all the rain ♪ ♪ And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the giraffe again ♪ (Wimee laughs) That's funny.
If a little spider's like, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
Ooh, a tower.
Okay, rhyme with tower, okay.
♪ The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the tower ♪ ♪ Down came the rain and the spider was filled with power ♪ Ah!
(Wimee laughs) ♪ Out came the sun and dried up all the rain ♪ ♪ And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the tower again ♪ Waterfall.
Can you imagine that?
Picture that in your mind.
A little spider going up the waterfall.
What rhymes with the waterfall?
Hmm.
Jim, you got a rhyme for waterfall for me?
- [Jim] How about soccer ball?
- Soccer ball, okay.
♪ The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the waterfall ♪ ♪ Down came the rain and it also brought a soccer ball ♪ ♪ Out came the sun and dried up all the rain ♪ ♪ And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the soccer ball ♪ Wait, soccer ball, no water.
♪ Waterfall again Oh, you're dad.
(Wimee laughs) Okay, we could rhyme with daddy or dad.
I'm gonna go with dad.
♪ The itsy bitsy spider climbed up your dad ♪ ♪ Down came the rain and said I'm really glad ♪ ♪ Out came the sun and dried up all the rain ♪ ♪ And the itsy bitsy spider climbed up your dad again ♪ Oh, a daddy long leg.
That's fascinating.
A little spider climbed up a daddy long leg.
(Wimee laughs) How do they have such long legs?
What's the story on that?
Jim, do you know anything about, I have to research more about the daddy long leg.
- [Jim] Yeah, we gotta find out more about 'em for sure.
- Yeah, man.
Friends, thanks for singing.
That was so much fun.
(Wimee hums) Okay, let's find out, what is Moby gonna tell us today?
(upbeat music) - Did you know that spiders make a new web every day?
And it only takes about an hour for a spider to spin a web.
Wow.
Spiders, they use their webs to catch other bugs to eat.
One spider eats about 2,000 insects in a year.
Wow.
If we didn't have spiders, we would have bugs everywhere.
Just imagine bugs all over the place.
Ho, ho, I guess spiders are pretty cool to have around.
(upbeat music) - Hey Jim, that totally matches what you were talking about, why you love spiders.
- [Jim] Right, I know.
They're great exterminators.
- Yeah.
Spiders.
I'm gonna pretend there's one right here.
(Wimee laughs) There's an invisible spider right there.
Okay, friends, let's play, it's time for today's 1, 2, 3 sentence story, beginning, middle, end.
We are going to write a story, friends, in three sentences.
In the first sentence, we'll set the scene.
In the second sentence, there's a problem, but don't worry, because in the third sentence, there's a solution.
Okay, we love to play this game with, or no, it's a, I guess it's a game.
It's really more of a, we're writing, we're creating together.
We love using nouns.
Share a person, place, or thing.
That's a noun.
Something we can see, right?
So in the first sentence, we'll set the scene in lamp.
The word we're gonna use to start this all off.
We never know where it's gonna go.
Lamp, okay.
I was sitting in the dark this morning, so I turned on my lamp.
That seems logical.
Sitting down, oh, maybe I'm in my living room.
The illustrations may decide.
Let's find out what the Wimage board's gonna do with the lamp and turning it on.
Ha, ha!
There I am.
Ha, ha!
I'm like, "Yay."
Okay, so I turn on the light of my lamp, but oh, no, a problem.
What is going to happen?
Oh, nice.
I like the chair.
Oh, I'm gonna, oh my goodness.
I'm gonna put me in the foreground.
There I am.
Ah, that's comfortable chair.
Oh, no, the problem is the library card.
Oh, I got it.
Okay.
This morning I was sitting in my living room in the dark, so I turned on my lamp.
I was going to check out a digital book, but I could not remember.
I was gonna say, "Oh, I need a library card number."
Oh, no, Jim.
I would, do you see where I was going?
I thought I was gonna check out a book.
- [Jim] I did, but I think that still works.
But you couldn't find your library card number 'cause I think you still have to put your library card number in to, right?
So you couldn't find your library card.
It works.
- Yeah, so, I should memorize my number though.
That would help.
But yeah, since I was looking for my library card to get the number to check out a digital book.
Yeah.
Oh, look what it is?
(Wimee laughs) Wimage board!
Friends, do you see where the library card is?
Okay, so I gotta solve this problem to check out a book.
I need to figure out my library card number.
I can't find my card.
Ooh, a horse.
(Wimee laughs) Okay, horse is the solution.
I'm thinking.
Is the horse gonna bring it?
Maybe my horse.
Hmm, there's the horse.
Is it a toy horse?
I was thinking a living horse, but maybe it's a toy horse.
Okay, I got it, okay.
I was sitting in the dark in my living room, so I turned on the lamp.
I wanted to check out a digital book from the library, but I could not find my library card with the number.
(upbeat music) I'm so glad that my friend toy horse had it memorized and said to me, (Wimee speaks gibberish) and I was able to enter the card and I downloaded my favorite book.
(Wimee laughs) Yay!
What do you think, Jim?
That's one option.
- [Jim] I like it.
- Were you thinking of anything?
- [Jim] No.
I think it was good.
Yours was unexpected and I think that that's good.
- Yeah.
Do you have any toy horses?
Or toys that help you out?
- [Jim] I have lots of toys.
- Yeah.
- [Jim] And they're helpful.
I guess they help me play, so I'm pretty happy about that.
- Look at me and my toy horse.
That library card though, is still stuck under the chair.
- [Jim] I know.
- I guess that's- - [Jim] Hopefully one of these days you'll find it.
- Yeah, that's another problem.
Hmm.
Okay, well friends, thanks for helping out.

(tropical music) - I'm not scared of spiders, are you?
Today's word is spider.
- In Spanish, spider is arana, arana.
- In Swahili, spider is buibui, buibui.
- Spider in Ukrainian is nabyk, nabyk.
- Spider in Arabic is.
(woman speaks Arabic) - In American sign language, spider is signed like this, spider.
- In Haitian Creole, spider is spider, spider.
(tropical music) - Do you know what I noticed, friends?
Spider in Arabic and Ukrainian had a similar, a similarity.
I noticed that they were different, but they seemed so much similar.
Jim, did you notice anything with today's Language Explorers?
- [Jim] I did.
Well, I noticed buibui.
I said a lot of times when we have Language Explorers, I like to go, "Hmm, are there any of those I'd like to add to my vocabulary along with my English version?"
And I really liked buibui today.
- Buibui, yeah.
And Arana was in Spanish.
- [Jim] Mm-hm.
- Arana.

Today, it's pretty exciting.
My friend Maddie from the John Ball Zoo is gonna share with us a really cool spider.
♪ We're gonna the zoo with all our friends ♪ ♪ And when we're there ♪ We're gonna see a Brazilian salmon-pink tarantula ♪ - Oh my goodness!
Hi, Maddie.
- Hi Wimee!
- I heard you are an expert on the Brazilian salmon-pink tarantula.
- I am.
- Tell us about this amazing creature.
- This amazing creature, all right.
He, they can live up to 15 years.
That's a female.
- Okay.
- Can live up to 15 years.
- Okay.
- But the male can only live three to five years.
- Oh, wow.
- [Maddie] These tarantulas are found in northeast Brazil.
- [Wimee] Okay.
- [Maddie] And- - Is that why it's called the Brazilian salmon-pink tarantula?
- It is indeed, yes.
- Okay.
- They're only from there.
So the reason you'll find them anywhere else is because we bring them over and put them into zoos or people have them as pets.
- Okay, wow.
And how many legs do they have?
- [Maddie] They have eight legs.
They do have a cluster of eyes, but they actually, their vision is not very good.
- [Wimee] A cluster!
Does that mean like a lot of eyes?
- [Maddie] Yeah.
Yep, yep, a lot of eyes.
So you'd think they'd be able to see good, but they don't.
- [Wimee] That's fascinating.
- So they burrow in logs or a leaf litter on the rainforest floor in Brazil.
- Okay.
- And they're ambush predators.
So that means they'll sit and wait until their prey comes along.
And then they'll strike at 'em.
- They get 'em.
- Yep.
And then they get 'em.
- Sneaky.
- I know.
- Wow.
What do they like to eat the best?
- So they like to eat small reptiles, small mammals, amphibians like frogs or salamanders.
- Okay.
- They have been known to eat small birds.
That's why they're, in their name it's called- - Small birds!
- Yes.
Bird eating tarantula.
- Look out birdies!
- I know.
(Maddie laughs) But it's actually very rare that they are seen eating birds.
- [Wimee] Okay.
- [Maddie] Yes.
- [Wimee] Wow.
- [Maddie] So if they do, they're probably like a hummingbird or very small birds.
- [Wimee] Oh, wow.
- [Maddie] Yes.
- [Wimee] Okay.
- [Maddie] Yes.
And they're large.
They're the fourth largest tarantula in the world, - Man, they're amazing, right.
Now, sometimes people are scared of them.
Why do you feel people are worried about 'em?
- I feel like because they have multiple legs and they're elusive, meaning that they can hide without maybe you seeing them easily.
- Oh, yeah.
- And they can bite, anything with the mouth can bite.
- Okay.
- Actually, these guys fully grown, their fangs can be an inch long.
- An inch long!
- An inch long!
- Oh!
- Yeah.
- These are amazing.
Wait, now is it, it's a spider, does that mean it's a bug, or does it, what does that mean?
- It's an insect.
- Insect.
- Yes.
- Okay.
- It's an invertebrate.
- Okay.
- Which means they do not have a vertebrae.
- Oh.
- So fully grown they shed their exoskeleton every year.
- [Wimee] Oh.
- [Maddie] When they're younger, they shed it about every three to five weeks.
- [Wimee] Whoa.
- [Maddie] And the males are on average smaller than the females.
- [Wimee] Okay.
- But their legs are longer than the females.
- Whoa.
- Yeah.
- Okay.
Do humans ever or robots ever shed their skin?
- I don't think so.
That's, you know, I think robots just have their skin all the time.
- Yeah, no one's ever told me to shed my skin.
(Maddie laughs) - Yeah, I think you're good.
You don't have to worry about that.
- Great.
Well, Maddie, this has been so wonderful.

Jim, those spiders can have fangs up to an inch long.
- [Jim] I know.
That's crazy.
They looked so cool though.
Like I love they had great Halloween colors, right?
They were like black and orange.
They were really cool looking.
- You know, I forgot to ask Maddie, we know it's from Brazil, but the salmon pink part, I wonder, I still gotta learn about that part.
- [Jim] Well, I guess salmon pink is kind of an orangey pink, right?
- Oh yeah, that makes sense.
Hey, I love that song by the way.
♪ We are going to the zoo (Wimee laughs) Friends, that's Jim's song.
He wrote that song.
I love his, oh man, his songs and spiders and learning and creating.
Whew, good stuff.
And ha-ha jokes.
(kids cheer) - Hey, we got any spider fans out there?
- [Audience] Woo.
- Okay, so why do spiders make great baseball players?
- [Audience] Why do spiders make great baseball players?
- Because they can catch all the flies.
(kids cheer) - It's time now for slowing down.
(slow violin music) Hey, it's time for a game.
We're gonna play, Let's Make a Rhyme.
(upbeat music) Okay, friends that are registered with the play at home interface, start typing.
What words rhyme with eight?
We'll bring it in the show.
Friends at home that are watching in general, just think to yourself, holler it out, and say to the screen, "Hey, gate rhymes with eight."
Oh, that's on the list.
(Wimee laughs) Gate, skate, bait, fishing bait, late.

That's a straight line to go roller skate.
We'll be up late.
We'll have to wait to open the gate to go to the freight.
That's a train, a freight train.

My fate is all about the words that you put on the screen.
(Wimee laughs) I love it.

- [Jim] Skate is the biggest one right now.
- Oh yeah.
Oh, that means friends who are typing in the same word the most, that one gets bigger.

I just ate.

(Wimee laughs) That's so great.

- [Jim] Because our friend spiders have eight legs.
- Yes.
Ah, that's exactly it.

(rock music) Friends, can you find three things, one, two, three?
Can you find all three?
Something that starts with the letter S, something cute, and find something small.
Three things.
What do you think?
Jim, have you found any of these things yet?
- [Jim] I have this sweater that starts with S. - [Wimee] Nice.
- And you know, I was thinking about it and I've also discovered that not only does my sweater start with S, but that I have a shirt on that starts with S, shoes that start with S, socks that start with S, right.
There's a lot of clothes.
Actually, my pants could be slacks that start with S. - [Wimee] Whoa, there's so many things.
- [Jim] Yeah.
- [Wimee] Wow.
- I'm still trying, and I also found a cute little toy shark.
It's right here.
- Hello, sharky.
- And I found this little paper clip.
- That looks like a large paper clip.
- It is.
It's very large.
Look at that, isn't that fun?
- Whoa.
- But you know, it's all relative, right?
- It is all perspective.
Wow, thanks, Jim.
Yes, let's see friends, what have you found?
Anything that starts with S. Snail, ooh, and a snail is also cute and small.
Ding, ding, ding, ding.
It's kind of like up there with spiders, small, cute.
Oh, baby snake.
Oh, baby snake is cute, small, and starts with S. Some of you are going for all three in one.
The three in one.
Ooh, smile starts with S. A puppy, that could be both cute and small.
Nice work, Orange Bat.
Ooh, Blue Frog says "Salt, spider, snack."
(Wimee laughs) Indeed.
Oh wait, salt starts with S and is small.
A grain of salt.
A snack.
I don't, I guess, I don't know if salt or snack would be cute.
Maybe the snack would be cute if it was like, "Oh," it's like, no, I don't know if I think.
Right Jim, have you ever thought of a cute snack?
I was- - [Jim] Maybe marshmallow.
Marshmallow's cute.
- Yeah.
Oh, sloth.
Yeah and I know those were different things for the different three there.
But oh, shoes starts with S. A cat is cute.
And a ball is small, ball.
Oh, that rhymes, small ball.
(Wimee laughs) That's awesome.
Whew, man, we've been having a great time, Jim.
- [Jim] Yeah.
- Yeah.
What stood out to you on the show?
I think the, oh, wait a minute.
Oh my goodness, Jim.
Yes, sometimes I make mistakes.
I made a mistake.

- [Jim] We have to check out this book.
- Yes, indeed.

- Wait, right there, spider.
I want to see you spin your web, but I really need to check out this book.
(upbeat music) - You may have heard of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," but have you heard of "The Very Busy Spider?"
Look at that spider with all the legs.
This book is about a spider who is trying to create a spiderweb, right.
And other animals come to say, "Do you wanna play?
Do you wanna hang out?
Do you wanna spend time together?"
And the spider is always saying, "I'm busy.
I'm busy.
I'm busy spinning a web."
What do you think the spider is going to catch in that web?
I bet you know.
